How Emery Air Phased In Cargo Surveillance With a DIY Install
Emery Air handles aircraft cargo across hundreds of thousands of square feet of warehousing. SCW designed a phased, NDAA-compliant system the Emery Air team could install themselves while keeping costs down.
01 · The Problem
The Problem
Emery Air is a multi-platform aviation service company in Rockford, Illinois. Founded in 1958 as a flight school, it now offers a full-service FBO, air freight ground handling, bonded cargo warehousing, 3PL warehousing, and trucking logistics support.
With large volumes of aircraft cargo handled across hundreds of thousands of square feet of warehousing, operations monitoring was a crucial requirement for Kevin Schmidt, Director of Technology & Facilities.
When you handle cargo with aircraft, lots of people want to be able to watch the operations occurring there. I would like to be able to view as much of the floor area as possible.
Kevin wanted a DIY install to save money, which meant minimizing cable runs. The system also needed to scale, with plans to upgrade and retrofit the rest of the facility later. SCW was chosen for its track record of scalable systems and its ability to tailor a solution to Emery Air’s needs.

To keep costs down and keep pace with DIY installation, the project was split into phases, each delivering a different set of NDAA-compliant equipment.

The Result
The result was a scalable, tailored surveillance system delivered in phases, keeping costs down and making DIY installation as easy as possible.
The system covers the entire cargo handling facility as well as several buildings and production lines. With 120 cameras and 5 NVRs, Kevin and his team can monitor the final production assembly lines and access to and from the airstrip, a crucial security consideration from the start.
Emery Air’s ongoing feedback has also helped SCW make product updates to optimize performance.
We’re probably pushing close to 200 cameras by now, and they are great. The SCW solution works better than we used to have.
